Matching algorithm
At mixOpinions, our goal is to foster enriching discussions by connecting you with others who have different viewpoints. Here’s a breakdown of how our matching algorithm helps facilitate diverse and engaging conversations:
How participants are matched
To ensure that each discussion is dynamic and insightful, we’ve developed a matching system that pairs participants based on varying degrees of differing opinions:
One different opinion: This is our default setting, where participants are matched if they have at least one differing opinion. It’s designed to guarantee a variety of perspectives in every discussion, making it the most popular choice among users.
Two different opinions: For those seeking more depth in conversation, this setting requires participants to have at least two differing opinions before they are matched. This ensures that the discussion will cover multiple areas of disagreement, enriching the conversation further.
First question matching: In this mode, matches are made only if participants have different answers to the first question. This stringent criterion means matches are less frequent but highly focused on specific disagreements.
Visibility of discussion topics
Topics can be set as publi or private by the creator of the topic.
Public topics: Once created, these topics are accessible to all on the mixOpinions platform but only become visible on our public listing after at least 20 participants have joined. This ensures that the topic has enough initial activity to foster robust discussion. Creators are encouraged to promote their topics to reach this participant threshold quickly.
Private Topics: Designed for more confidential discussions, private topics are not listed publicly and can only be accessed through a direct link shared by the creator. This setup is ideal for discussions on sensitive subjects or among specific groups.
